Mavis Mabwe was born in 1961 and began sculpting in 1988, by watching her uncle reknowned sculptor Nicholas Mukomberanwa. She spent most of her time assisting her sculptor husband, David Chirambadare. After his untimely death in 1993 She began to develop her own quiet yet majestic style. Mavis is recognized as one of the leading sculptors in an art sector reserved for men.
